Photographed around 1897, this is the plate girder underbridge that carried the Leicester viaduct across Slater Street. Built by Henry Lovatt & Co. as part of Contract No.2 (Leake to Aylestone), this imposing iron structure has long since been demolished, although the brick abutment on the north side of the viaduct, seen here on the left, remains in place.
