Nearing completion, this is the plate girder underbridge over St. Augustine Street, built by Henry Lovatt & Co. as part of Contract No.2 (Leake to Aylestone). Situated south of Leicester's Great Central Station, this structure carried the city's long viaduct towards the Goods Yard and Carriage Sidings at Bede Island. Note the goliath crane at work on the bridge: a rare subject for Newton's camera.
