Manning Wardle & Co. 'M' class 0-6-0 tank locomotive, BROUGHTON, No. 1062 of 1888. BROUGHTON was something of a novelty amongst the Great Central contractor's engines as it had side tanks as opposed to the more familiar saddle tank. It is seen near Charwelton, Northamptonshire in the vicinity of Catesby Tunnel on 21st April 1897 when working on Contract No. 4; the section of line between Rugby and Woodford constructed by T. Oliver & Son. The loco's crew is made up of two men and two boys.
