Hunslet Engine Co. built 0-6-0 saddletank locomotive, BLACKPOOL, No. 369 of 1885. The photograph was taken near Catesby Tunnel in Northamptonshire when the locomotive was working on Contract No. 4 (Rugby to Woodford) built by T. Oliver & Son between 1894 and 1899. The locomotive's crew are joined by a number of navvies, and four of the men pose against the side of BLACKPOOL, whilst a fifth stands in the enclosed cab. Before coming to the London Extension project, BLACKPOOL had previously worked on the construction of the Manchester Ship Canal.
