Site of the Manchester, Sheffield & Lincolnshire Railway's Goods Station, Leicester, circa 1896. In 1897, the M.S. & L.R. became the Great Central Railway, a name thought more suitable for a company with a prestigious new line to London. This part of the London Extension (Contract No.2, Leake to Aylestone) was built by Henry Lovatt of Wolverhampton between 1894 -1899.
